The First grade Team is very excited to partner with the Safari Park! W.E. C.A.R.E !
Message from San Diego Zoo & Safari Park San Pasqual Union and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park have had a long standing partnership which has focused on creating memorable experiences for 4th grade students through animal presentations and behind the scenes visits at the Safari Park. While 4th grade will continue their unique partnership, San Pasqual Union and the Safari Park are expanding their partnership with a new program called W.E. C.A.R.E.: Wildlife Education and Conservation Action Reaching Everyone. This program is designed to educate and inspire students through novel curricula and experiences that connect Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) based lessons and activities to San Diego Zoo Global mission of “saving species worldwide by uniting their expertise in animal care and conservation science with their dedication to inspiring passion for nature”.
Safari Park educators will visit each K-4 class once a month to teach a lesson that is specially designed for San Pasqual students. This curriculum is cross-curricular and collaborates with current classroom instruction. Each grade level will focus on various threatened or endangered species that San Diego Zoo Global supports with their global partnerships. Students will not only learn about the species, but also how the species is connected to the students, why the species is in peril, and what students can do to help. Students will also have field trip opportunities that are created to connect them with these species and to the information they’ve learned. The vision of this program is to educate and inspire students to be conservation drivers and world-oriented citizens. Through this program, San Pasqual Union joins San Diego Zoo Global in the fight to end extinction.
Thank you joining us on this adventure! Jessica Snodgrass Education Coordinator San Diego Zoo Safari Park
